Overview
Discover the intellectual heart of Paris on this self-guided walking tour of the Latin Quarter. Over roughly 5 km and 18 stops, you travel through two thousand years of history from the Roman city of Lutetia to the medieval universities that gave the neighbourhood its name. Start at the Jardin des Plantes, one of the world's oldest botanical gardens, then step into the Hispano-Moorish Grande Mosquée de Paris and the 2nd-century Arènes de Lutèce, once a gladiator arena. Climb the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève past the Panthéon, the Sorbonne and the Lycée Henri-IV, then wind down through the Luxembourg Garden, the Dalí sundial on rue Saint-Jacques, Shakespeare & Company and the bouquinistes, finishing at Notre-Dame, the Hôtel-Dieu and the Marché aux Fleurs on the Île de la Cité.
