In downtown Tokyo, there is a shopping district called Ameyoko in Ueno. During World War II, Ueno and other parts of Tokyo were severely damaged by air raids. After the war, burnt-out people gathered in urban areas and opened small stores to make a living. Ameyoko” is a street that still conveys the atmosphere of postwar Tokyo, and even today, one can feel the lively and vital atmosphere of the postwar period.
