Overview

Rome in the 16th century, a city of criminals where public executions took place every day. We'll begin the tour at the papal castle, a site of executions and torture, including that of nobles and famous artists, whose stories we'll tell. An extraordinary ancient imperial mausoleum that the popes transformed into a fortress. We'll visit the apartments and the treasure chamber, and enjoy the view from the terrace. We'll then continue through the city to the old prison on Via Giulia, now the headquarters of the Anti-Mafia unit, and Campo dei Fiori, where rope torture was practiced and heretics were burned alive. Skip-the-line entrance tickets are not included and must be paid to the guide before the tour: €20.
